“For as long as I remember, even as a child running barefoot over river rocks, the way back to myself has been through writing and dance.  Movement taught me how to befriend the soft and wild animal of my body; taught me how to listen to the emotions and sensations stored in her tissues. The private pages of my journal gave me permission to tell myself the truth about life and find meaning.
Now, after years of writing and dancing professionally, my practice has evolved into a way of letting my body tell her story. Combining movement and reflective journaling, SomaScribe is my way of sharing the rituals and process I’ve learned. There is a community of us in this world who long for rituals that help us remember who we are on deep, creative levels—it’s time we find each other and play.
Those familiar with Julia Cameron’s “The Artist’s Way” will no doubt recognize her influence on this class. When she explains that “Survival lies in sanity, and sanity lies in paying attention… the capacity for delight is the gift of paying attention,” her words speak directly to me, and perhaps to you.
With SomaScribe, we combine two different practices that integrate the psyche, body, and soul. We will activate our imaginations, and reconcile the rift between our thoughts, feelings, and instincts. We will rewire our brains so our cognitive lobes can converse with the primal parts. We will unlock the stories that live within our skin and develop our ability to pay attention through any number of challenges. And plus, oh yeah, we’ll have a lot of fun doing it. “

The Logistics

We will meet weekly over zoom for a 90 minute practice. The practice is a blend of timed writing blocks and guided movement for inquiry-based, self-exploration. To conclude each session, there will be an invitation to share with each other.

Bonus guided movement sequences and writing prompts will show up to your inbox each week for you to enjoy at your convenience.

My hope is that you will fall in love with the process and have tangible tools to take home after the course is finished.
