“For as long as I remember, even as a child running barefoot over river rocks, the way back to myself has been through writing and dance. Movement taught me how to befriend the soft and wild animal of my body; taught me how to listen to the emotions and sensations stored in her tissues. The private pages of my journal gave me permission to tell myself the truth about life and find meaning.
Now, after years of writing and dancing professionally, my practice has evolved into a way of letting my body tell her story. Combining movement and reflective journaling, SomaScribe is my way of sharing the rituals and process I’ve learned. There is a community of us in this world who long for rituals that help us remember who we are on deep, creative levels—it’s time we find each other and play.
Those familiar with Julia Cameron’s “The Artist’s Way” will no doubt recognize her influence on this class. When she explains that “Survival lies in sanity, and sanity lies in paying attention… the capacity for delight is the gift of paying attention,” her words speak directly to me, and perhaps to you.
With SomaScribe, we combine two different practices that integrate the psyche, body, and soul. We will activate our imaginations, and reconcile the rift between our thoughts, feelings, and instincts. We will rewire our brains so our cognitive lobes can converse with the primal parts. We will unlock the stories that live within our skin and develop our ability to pay attention through any number of challenges. And plus, oh yeah, we’ll have a lot of fun doing it. “
-Katie Clancy, Co-owner of Soma Durango

“Any story worth telling is a story worth feeling”

"Katie Clancy has been my instructor in mindful movement, including Pilates, for 10 years. She has a beautiful way of teaching in an experiential fashion so that I learn what my body wants and needs in an organic and fun way. We practice movement for the sake of bliss. I’ve learned how breath can help facilitate a dance between body and soul. She reminds me of my personal commitment to growth and health, which improves my mental and emotional outlook. She teaches me how to honor my inner beauty that is uniquely mine to develop. I leave her sessions feeling spacious, graceful,
and inspired to do the activities I love."

Katie's enthusiasm for the work is infectious. Her constant acquisition of knowledge, coupled with her compassion and affection for her clients, ensure that each of us
benefits from her attention. We work hard in class, but we laugh as well. Breathing is emphasized, which allows me to access different parts of the body and release tension. I can feel my nervous system reset during every session. Every time I work with her, I
know that my body will receive what it needs and that I will walk out a little taller, with freer movement and a more open spirit.

"I have been receiving Katie’s wonderful gifts for almost 15 years as a student of her Pilates & Yoga classes, bodywork client, and audience member of her dance performances. With her awareness of it all--Body, Mind and Spirit--she weaves it together to make our movement sessions fly by! Her humor and attention to my unique needs deeply nourishes me and helps me see the value in taking the time for myself. Through movement, breathing, flow, and humor, I’ve developed more resiliency and skills that help me deal with the stresses of life. She has transformed the way I look at movement, agility, and strength on all levels.”
